This is the area of my site where I tinker with some features of DreamweaverMX 2004. I am following the instructions in this book.

Messing around with DreamweaverMX 2004
& learning new Dreamweaver features . . .

All this time that I have created web pages—all these years that I've used Macromedia Dreamweaver (starting with a demo version of Dreamweaver 3, graduating quickly to Dreamweaver 4, and now Dreamweaver MX 2004), I have avoided using style sheets (CSS—Cascading Style Sheets) and have stuck with simple tables. And I don't regret that. Tables can be viewed on any old browser—on any old computer, and that can be a very good thing.

But Styles, "Layer" Styles and whatnot—they're FUN! Most fun. I don't know if I'll integrate them into all of my web designs, but I will certainly make some web sites with them. Because they're dandy.

If you are used to using previous versions of Dreamweaver, CSS "layers" are a little like the table layout feature that has been in Dreamweaver since version 4. You can drag the "layer" around on the page, change its size, and so forth. Very fun and easy.

I can see how it will be really easy to get layer-crazy and do some nutty and tacky stuff. I think this page is proof of that. And if you aren't sufficiently appalled by the design on this page, check out the first test page I did for layer styles with DreamweaverMX 2004. That's pretty awful.

Want to send me feedback? (Whatever for?) Well, if you do, here is my feedback form.
